Burg Birder

Saturday, March 17, 2018. My first stop on this crisp but clear day was Rondeau Park. I first checked out the campground where it was relatively quiet. I did come across one of the wintering Yellow-rumped Warblers. I also walked south point trail at the end of Lakeshore Road. The lake was rather quiet today. Certainly too far for a photo as well. On my way out of t.

I think I just changed from someone whose favourite season is summer to one whose most beloved season is autumn. As I round the pond and head into the woods, I notice the tracks of a small deer in the mud. From the angle I can tell the animal emerged from the overgrowth to drink from the pond, probably at dusk last evening. Deer and pheasant live here. As Within, So Without.

The Pelee Chickadee

Monday, April 3, 2017. We had great looks at some of our regular migrants such as Rusty Blackbirds, Hermit Thrushes and Tree Swallows around the swamp woodland sections of the trail. There is a lot of water along the trail, so Waterthrushes will have quite a bit of habitat this spring. We later met up with Jeremy Hatt at the north end of the trail and saw a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker on our way out. The next morning I wen.

Lions and tigers and bears. OH MY! With all due respect to Dorothy on the Wizard of Oz, this is not Kansas, and here at Rondeau there are lions and tigers and bears also. and rattlesnakes, too! First, the lions.

Ducks and Birds A flock of geese leave their lake and take wing, turning to poems in the sky. Dr. SunWolf

A flock of geese leave their lake and take wing, turning to poems in the sky. August always seems to come suddenly! There you are, enjoying the summer when suddenly you notice that the days are getting a little shorter and birds are on the move again. Returning to Wildwood we are still seeing Herons and Kingbirds, Swallows and Kingfishers. But nearby at Harrington, the shorebirds have been arriving along with Great Egrets.

Silvatica Yarns

Tales of my time in the outdoors. Monday, August 27, 2012. So, we returned from Newfoundland, and, as expected, the wildflowers in my garden truly went wild! Essex county enjoyed some much-needed rain while we were away, and the plants really went crazy - I love it! Kory has posted an excellent summary of our Newfoundland backpacking trip over on his blog. The previous owners planted a butterfly bush in the yard - and it really does attract butterflies! Nearby, a monarch was feeding.
